I would like to thank each of you who joined us for the call last week, it was an excellent turn out.  The VIP Bootcamp is really growing into such a fun weekend!  Starting on Friday with a mixer and registration at 5:00 pm.   All day Saturday we will be in packaging and business building sessions, with our participants being introduced througout the day to the Movers and Shakers in the Dallas Business Community.  Then Sunday is a low key day with a Brunch.  On Monday, we will join forces with our Access Partner, Jennifer Luney and the B=Harmony Crew at their Big Idea Dinner.

Tuesday it appears people will be flying home and will begin the follow up 3 Month ER Mastermind to insure all participants are utilizing and executing what they learned and who they were introduced to during the weekend.

Good Morning!

Understanding and making the right choice of event’s to attend can be tricky at best.  For many, they simply go to the events of their Guru’s or Mentors and through those channels believe they will be connected to clients, cash, further education and eventually a prosperous career.

What often happens is events include so many people the actual participants are unable to gain the attention of the leader they have paid to “engage with”, much less get any type of “ongoing support” included in the price of the event.  Working with 100’s of speakers, authors, educators and professionals in the public eye, I DO understand the challenge of “serving your audiences engagement needs” and having “personal time”. 

It’s important for us all to understand what factors should be taken into consideration when deciding on events, seminars, and workshops…along with the education that is being offered.

Things to think about: 

1. Will it provide executable education?
2. Will if offer paperwork which will allow you to work through the material over and over after it is over?
3. Does the event offer you the opportunity to market with not only your target market, but aso other vendors who work with your market?
4. What type of people will you be introduced to?  Do they serve your target market?
5. How accessible is the Leader during and after the event!
6. Is there “ongoing support” included in the price of attending the event?
7. Does the event offer the opportunity to really connect with others for longer term relationships?

Oh my gosh, our first VIP day is on the calendar and the marketing has begun.  This is so exciting!  For years I’ve been attending events and working with those who attend events as a method of marketing their business.  It’s so interesting, the people and connections you can make at events.

After doing so much research around events and how to maximize and grow your biz through attending events, I realize I’ve never blogged or shared any of what I’ve learned and wanted to remedy that right away.

1)  Find out what 1 thing that matters most to the person standing or sitting in front of you and try to introduce them to someone who can help them achieve it…AT the conference or event, if possible.

2) Know who services your target market in a completely different way BEFORE you attend a conference and/or event and focus in on meeting those professionals.

3)  Don’t only talk about business, find out what else matters to the person in front of you beyond “cash & clients”.  This is a biggie!  We all know this, but people remember those who are interested in “who they are”…not just “what they do”..

4)  Ask people who you can introduce them to, other than clients or cash making opportunities.

5)  Introduce people to one another as a primary activity during a conference or event.

6)  If you are shy, connect with a social person you feel comfortable with and allow them to introduce you to others.  Extroverts and Introverts can be some of the best event buddies, both bringing depth to the other.

7)  Find a buddy, a running mate for the conference and have fun!

8)  Do not complain or bad mouth the venue, education, educator or vendors, as it only makes you look like a gossip.  Create a positive environment for people to be around by staying focused on the positives of the experience.

This morning I’ve been having conversations about part of our programing called Access Partners and wanted to come out and be very very clear about what our definition of an Access Partner is.

Let me first tell you the story of how this came to be.  As I was networking my business, I met some wonderful folks along the way who are now my Access Partners, but in the beginning, I just called them uber brilliant at marketing, networking, conversation, relationship building, all the stuff that makes a business snap, crackle and pop with success.

I also met some folks who had been in the business building game a long time and I really felt sorry for them, they didn’t seem to understand how to have conversation, how to show up and not “sell to the room”…some of these folks even thought they were clever by hiding it under other self serving questions, but no one was fooled.

Even I, when I began my business, had no concept of “don’t sell to the room”.  I was so excited about doing my life’s dream, I just wanted everyone to know what I did….and I didn’t get alot of referrals or connections and was totally puzzled…

I looked around at those I saw doing an authentic job of connecting, marketing, and just having fun in business.  Then I looked back and thought about how I had accomplished so much that required relationship building in my former corporate career, and why was it such a toughie when it came to relationship building and marketing my own business….

I didn’t have people walking around talking about me and promoting me like they did when I was in corporate and people certainly didn’t talk about me like the power networkers I saw in the business world.

The coconut dropped from the tree one night and hit me square on the head and I realized that I wasn’t even showing up for my business the way I showed up at Microsoft or the CPA firm I worked with.    For those organizations, I showed up as the “get her done” lady…I would work and do what it took, including draw in and inspire others to “crazy levels of performance”  < in a great way, of course> by the relationships I built.  What set me apart from the others is I truly cared about the future of the people around me and helped connect people with projects, other people and opportunities to further “what mattered to them the most” whether it was business or personal.   What resulted when I was in corporate environments was I could get stuff done that others couldn’t and people trusted me to have their best interest at heart.

The entire reason I started my business was BECAUSE I was committed to people’s future. but how I showed up as a business owner was….”how do I get clients”…”can you help me get clients”…”let’s talk about me getting clients”, “ok, let’s talk about you for 5 minutes”, “then let’s talk about how you can send me clients”…how obnoxious I was… it’s easy to laugh at myself now, but the struggle and pain I experienced as a new business owner was real and I see it still every day…

As nice as people thought I was, I wasn’t showing up truly caring about the people I was talking to, I was on a quest for clients……..not sure why I believed  back then, the only people I could help were clients?  but I did….and IT SHOWED…in my revenue numbers, in my friendships, everywhere…

I had to REMEMBER what makes people like me in the first place is I truly truly care about people’s happiness and will go to the mat to help them…that is what made me valueable in corporate, that is what makes my company profitable and valueable in the business world and simply makes my heart sing…

So I brainstormed with some of those very people I saw “getting it done”.  Jennifer Luney,  Jeff Klein , to name a few.  These folks were talking about relationship building in thier meetings, education, and speaking gigs. 

I wanted to take the relationship building a step further and create a method and process that anyone can apply to their life whether they are a small business owner, a corporate manager, and leader of a non profit….anyone who wants to build a community of people who trust you, respect you and talk about you to others in a positive and enriching manner.    I kept thinking over and over that it’s so superficial to just have people in your life as referral partners, I craved more….I wanted partners who were committed to the success of my life…I wanted people to open my emails because they KNOW an introduction from me matters for more than just a sale that day…it could mean 500 sales in 2 months…it could mean the best friend of their entire life….

Access Partners was designed to help people Expand and Reinvent the way they are connecting in Business, allowing people to be “people” rather than just walking sales machines…..

It turns your Connections into Walking Billboards, not only for your business or career or non-profit agency, but for your LIFE!!

Access Partners is someone who services your same market in a totally different way who shares a deep know like trust relationship with you.

If you select properly, you only need a few of these Access Partners and you can cut down your Marketing efforts by 50% and amp up your Product/Service Development efforts or go for world domination!   Selecting the RIGHT PARTNER, AT THE RIGHT TIME, IN THE RIGHT ORDER can be the difference between success and failure.

Some of you reading this may not be willing to admit you are STILL swatting at weeds, but you are…and I will use the words from the below scene to make my point….

It’s whether we SEE and TAKE the choice in THAT moment which becomes our success or failure.

I find in my practice, it’s necessary to not only CONSULT, but DO. Not only DO, but TEACH in order for my clients to sustain the solutions I’ve provided. Whether it’s Packaging, Engagement or Execution, in my personal standards, if a client cannot work the processes and solutions I’ve delivered for them, I’ve setup a dependance, which breaks down any sustaining programs I’ve created. Don’t get me wrong, I have clients that utilize us for many of the same projects, but their decision factor is differant. They are not utilizing us because they have no other option. They are utilizing us because we are the MOST Efficient and best solution being offered, and that is a great business relationship.

I say the solution to that is if you are calling them your clients, they deserve the ability to be self sustaining. They deserve the education and training of the solution they have purchased, not an upsell opportunity…We, as business owners, have to truly give a solution that CAN BE EXECUTED…not just great theory about what is working for people….

I find it much more thrilling when clients make the “choice” to utilize us because we are the “right” solution rather than “have” to use us because we didn’t give them enough education of the solution to make a “real” choice.
